Info for Athletes

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has published the 2025 Prohibited List, which comes into effect as of 1 January 2025 and replaces all previous lists. The changes relate in particular to the dosage limit for formoterol (S3) and the doping status of blood donations (M1).

New dosage limit for formoterol

The permitted dosage limit for inhaled formoterol has been changed. From January 1, 2025, a new additional limit will apply: a maximum of 36 micrograms of formoterol may be inhaled within 12 hours. The limit value of 54 micrograms per 24 hours remains in place. This means that if 36 micrograms of formoterol are inhaled within 12 hours, 18 micrograms may be inhaled in the following 12 hours. Further information can be found in the new special topic on Asthma Medication.

Platelet and peripheral blood stem cell donations now also permitted

From January 1, 2025, platelet and peripheral blood stem cell donations will no longer be prohibited according to the doping list. In addition to plasma donation, these will be permitted exceptions. Any other return of blood or blood components to the circulatory system will remain prohibited. The special topic blood donations and blood treatments is dedicated to this topic in detail.

Formal adjustments and new examples

For the 2025 Prohibited List, WADA also made formal adjustments for the most part and added examples of prohibited substances. An exhaustive list of all modifications is provided by the WADA.
