In the event of a medical emergency, health comes first. Emergency therapies should be administered immediately, even if this involves using prohibited substances or methods according to the Prohibited List.
Intravenous infusions and/or injections of more than 100 ml per 12-hour period of any substance are a prohibited method, even if the substance administered is not prohibited.

As part of some blood donations or treatments, the blood is reintroduced into the circulatory system, which is prohibited according to the Prohibited List. For prohibited donations or therapies, athletes therefore require a TUE.
