The new Prohibited List comes into effect as of 1 January 2019. This will make no practical difference for athletes, as what was banned in 2018 remains banned in 2019. Antidoping Switzerland nonetheless recommends that athletes check with their sports associations about possible changes to the dedicated regulations for their sport. For example, the UCI has announced changes to the rules on Tramadol.
Antidoping Switzerland also reminds athletes to visit the Global DRO drug check website to check the doping status of any medication before taking it. If a sportsperson needs to use a banned substance or method for health reasons, they can apply for a therapeutic use exemption (TUE) in advance. Depending on the type of sport and whether or not the athlete is covered by a doping pool, this must be submitted to the relevant international sporting association or to Antidoping Switzerland.
