Inquiry Process

1. Select Sport: Some substances are prohibited only in specific sports. For this reason, these sports are listed individually. However, most sports are not affected and therefore summarized under “All other sports”.

2. Select the Country where the medication was purchased: Medications are regulated at national level. The active ingredients they contain may differ from country to country, although medications may have similar or the same names, in some cases. Seven nations are currently available. If the country where you purchased your medication is not listed in the selection, please consult: Medication inquiries of other countries.

3. Search for medication: Enter the first letters of the medication you wish to check in the search field and click on “Search”. The terms and conditions are then displayed in a separate browser window – please read through this with care. A list of relevant search results is then displayed. Select the medication which precisely matches the name on your medication packaging!

Correctly Interpreting the Search Results

For medication, the search result displays the status according to the Prohibited List. This takes account of the prohibited status of all the active ingredients the medication contains. The browser and PDF also show the prohibited status of all individual active ingredients.

The prohibited status is displayed for both “in competition” and “out of competition” because some substances are only prohibited in competition. Substances prohibited in competition must not be detectable in competition testing, regardless of when they were used.

What the Medication Inquiry Service Shows

The medication inquiry service Global DRO provides the prohibited status of medications and ingredients according to the current Prohibited List.

Information is restricted to medications available for purchase in Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, the UK and the USA. In Switzerland, medications are approved by Swissmedic.

The inquiry service also lists pharmaceutical ingredients and synonyms of prohibited substances according to the Prohibited List.

The medication inquiry service does not contain any complementary medicines, nutritional supplements, medical devices, cosmetics, foodstuffs, or excipients.

We recommend entering the names of medications to ensure that the overall status of preparations containing several active ingredients is displayed.

If a medication cannot be found by the inquiry service, this does not mean that it is permitted for use!

First check that the name of the medication has been entered correctly. Type in just a few letters of its name.

The product you are looking for could be a nutritional supplement or another product not contained in the medication inquiry service. Read more about this below.

If you still cannot find the medication contact us, specifying the exact product name and active ingredients (contact details can be found at the bottom of the page).

The medication inquiry service Global DRO does NOT contain any information on, or that applies to, any nutritional supplement, unless an ingredient on the label is known to be prohibited.

Nutritional supplements may also contain prohibited substances even if their individual ingredients are displayed as not prohibited in Global DRO, or are not contained in the medication inquiry service. Nutritional supplements may contain prohibited active ingredients, which are not specified on the packaging, or alternate names may be used for ingredients, which cannot be found in Global DRO. Athletes use nutritional supplements at their own risk.

You should check your medications regularly, for two reasons: On the one hand, the composition of the medication may have been modified. On the other, the Prohibited List is revised each year effective January 1, and the prohibited status of substances or methods may therefore change.

You can save your search results as a PDF. This may be used as proof in the future that you have checked your medication.
